Three Sisters Park

IMG_1759.jpgA member at our church is an avid geocacher. He has even taken vacations based around geocaching. He recommended this park to us, so we thought we'd check it out.
_MG_2045.jpgThe weather couldn't be any better for hiking.
_MG_2056.jpgThis tiny little old film container was our first cache. I can't believe that our children will never know what film containers look like.
IMG_1718.jpgThe stroller didn't last too long because soon the terrain became less stroller friendly.
_MG_2061.jpgRachel and Kai found our next cache.
_MG_2062.jpgThe boys enjoyed rock climbing all over the park.
_MG_2066.jpgThe mountain views were beautiful as always.
_MG_2072.jpg"Hello, down below!" One part of the trail became steep which made it difficult for the little ones to keep up.
_MG_2073.jpgI think that's a view of a golf course in Evergreen.
_MG_2076.jpgWe even saw a few horses on the trail.
_MG_2080.jpgAnother film geocache was found behind a huge rock.
_MG_2088.jpgDavid then found another geocache with goodies included.
_MG_2092.jpgWhat great hiding place!
IMG_4501.jpgA nearby hiker offered to take a photo of all of us. We could have continued our hunt, but we had some grumbling bellies,
IMG_1762.jpgso off to BeauJo's we went!

Exploring Higher Altitude

_MG_9902.jpgLast week my Lutheran Stud spent a few days in Estes Park for some continuing ed. We met up with him on Tuesday to do what we love to do the most-explore by way of geocaching. However, first, after hearing that Noah's Ark was located in town, I had to find it. Here it is. You had no idea Noah's Ark was in Estes Park, CO did you?
_MG_9909.jpgIf you go to the Geocaching website or have the app on your phone you can find nearby caches, and see how large the cache is, and/or find out the terrain difficulty. My lovely husband thought a more challenging terrain would be fun. Anna and I didn't end up making it up the steep terrain on this cache, but that didn't stop the rest of our clan.
IMG_5003They found the cache hidden in this huge boulder. Can you see it peeking out?
_MG_9915.jpgThe next cache was a little easier to find.
_MG_9918.jpgAgain, it was hidden under a rock. This time, though, there was a little rabbit next to it. The name of this cache was Thumper. Often times the title of a cache can be a clue to finding it.
_MG_9924.jpgOur next find took us on this road that was more like a jeeping trail. Actually, if you don't have a 4-wheel drive vehicle you probably wouldn't make too far on this road.
_MG_9926.jpgThe Giving Tree was quite giving to our children.
_MG_9930.jpgIt was full of goodies.
_MG_9935.jpgEvery once in awhile I make my family pose for photos. Can you see the excitement on their faces?
_MG_9950.jpgWe had to park and hike 1/2 a mile for our last cache.
_MG_9942.jpgIt was a beautiful hike with random cacti along the way.
_MG_9961.jpgThe higher we went the more spectacular the view became.
_MG_9968.jpgWild flowers were also dispersed randomly on our trail.
_MG_9974.jpgWe finally made it up some steep rocks and found this ammo can filled with treasures inside.
_MG_9984.jpgWell, maybe treasures for some and junk for others?
_MG_9988.jpgAfter a long hike we headed back down the mountain for a little treat at the Munchin' House.
_MG_9986.jpgIce cream was a welcomed snack to cool everyone down.
IMG_5004Then it was off to dinner with friends at Poppy's. The pizza was fabulous and since the children filled up on ice cream there was more pizza for us. Try it out if you're ever in Estes Park!

Fun in the Sun

_MG_9775.jpgOur snowy spring seems to have jumped straight to summer with a side of thunderstorms.  It has gotten difficult to stay indoors with the sun shining so brightly.
_MG_9797.jpgWe decided to pack up a lunch, head to the park, and do a little exploring.
_MG_9776.jpgThis playground was pretty fun.
_MG_9782.jpgThis girl loves the swing!
_MG_9805.jpgDavid's getting a little help from Rebecca since he can't reach the spinner thing. This could make you dizzy quickly.
_MG_9808.jpg
Anna still gets scared to go down the slide by herself.

_MG_9811.jpg

_MG_9823.jpgOreos for dessert!
_MG_9830.jpgTime to leave the park and do a little geocaching.
_MG_9831.jpgWe have trails all around our home. It's great for bike rides, runs, and exploring.
_MG_9833.jpgThis is a fake rat with a geocache attached to it. Yuck, right? It's a good thing I have children who aren't afraid of rodents and other insects. I never would have reached my hand in there.
_MG_9837.jpgThe landscaping along the trail is quite fun for everyone. There's track with this old wagon thingy.
_MG_9839.jpgYou can pump yourself along the track. . . or lift your sister up.
_MG_9840.jpgI've been practicing a little landscpe photography. More on that another time.
_MG_9851.jpg

_MG_9853.jpgYou might think this is an ordinary tree, but take a closer look.
_MG_9852.jpgThat isn't a real pinecone. I'm sure that during pinecone season it might be a little more difficult to find, but when there is just one pinecone on the whole tree it makes it pretty easy.
_MG_9856.jpgOur last cache brought us to this view.
_MG_9861.jpgRachel has the best eye in our family. She seems to find most of the caches.
_MG_9865.jpgThey were super tiny caches on this hunt, but still a ton of fun. Now we're off to make it home before the storm rolls in.
