Halloween With Cousins

_MG_3477.jpgHalloween found us hanging out with out-of-town cousins.
_MG_3489.jpgWe were thankful that the snow decided to stay away and the children were able to get huge loots of candy, which ended up disappearing quickly, after the children fell asleep at night.

Trick or Treat Festivities

_MG_1682.jpgIt seems that Halloween sort of snuck up on us this year. Perhaps it's because Katie wasn't here with extra costumes to help the children decide what they wanted to be for Halloween. Yes, Andrea, we did have snow a few days earlier, but the weather changes so often that on Halloween day it was actually in the 70s. Lucky us! We do have snow in the forcast again this week though.
_MG_1691.jpgThe children were really looking forward to carving pumpkins so we made it happen.
_MG_1698.jpgAll of them enjoyed pulling the guts out of the pumpkins this year. In years past a few of them were a bit timid and grossed out.
_MG_1702.jpgRebecca carved her own pumpkin this year.
_MG_1704.jpgMy Lutheran Stud and Thomas are working on our big pumpkin which tipped the scales at 61 pounds!
_MG_1719.jpgAt the last minute my little dainty girl decided that she wanted to go trick or treating, so we found a lion costume for her in our dress up clothes trunk.
_MG_1722.jpgAh! How cute is she? Seriously.
_MG_1729.jpgThe children met up with the neighbors and they headed out with Jared and his beer. Anna and I stayed home to hand out candy.
_MG_1732.jpgHere's Rebecca's puking pumpkin. It had too much to eat.
_MG_1735.jpgJared's pumpkin was still hungry, so it gobbled up my spaghetti squash that was sitting on my porch. This pumpkin was a huge hit. There were many comments and photos taken of this guy! What a hoot!
_MG_1738.jpgThe children each returned with a decent loot of candy and that was just from our street. They didn't make it around the rest of the neighborhood. When they returned there was rumor of a haunted house in our neighborhood, so a Jared took the older children back out along with the neigbors. Just 2 out of the 6  children made it all the way through the haunted house. The rest were so scared they turned around and came back. Thomas made it through. I asked him if he wanted to go again and he said, "No. It was too scary." Now I'm a bit curious, but not so curious that I would visit that house. Hope you all had a fun evening filled with lots of good candy.

Trick or Treat

Pumpkin1It just so happens that Reformation and Halloween fall on the exact same day. So after a fabulous (so I hear)  joint Reformation service with Mt. Zion, Mt. Calvary, Hope, and Emmaus Lutheran Churches all the pastors and their lovely families headed to our house to party!HalloweenHere we go. Getting 14 13 children in costumes was quite chaotic. No. It was nuts. It was crazy, wild, and out of control.Halloween2Then someone had the bright idea of taking pictures. How crazy is that?Halloween4Yes. It’s me. The crazy person is me! Halloween5These kids are so cute that one must take pictures. Do you agree?  Halloween11 Off they all went for an evening of candy collecting.Halloween12Here’s the loot when they returned. Let the trading and eating begin.  Halloween9

Thank you Wolfmueller family for bringing your wonderful pumpkins over to share with us. We never got around to carving pumpkins this year. :(  You can check out the rest of the Halloween pictures HERE.

Circus Time!

T7 Grab a little makeup.T5Find a cute little boy. T1Let’s create a clown!T2Thomas was lucky enough to do this two times. Carissa didn’t get a chance to practice before hand, so she did a trial run before doing it again for the real video.T6    Elizabeth is a little confused. She’s not sure if we should be doing this. I asked her if she wanted her face painted and she just looked at me like I was some crazy lady.T4 Here is Thomas seeing himself for the first time. Carissa is holding up a mirror. He thinks he looks so cool. He couldn’t wait to get home and show all the neighbor kids.Thomas2Here’s the final shot. This was the second round of clown makeup. The video for this clown costume can be seen HERE at Walmart's website.

Fairy Princess

RfairyRachel’s costume was pretty easy as well. She is going to be a fairy princess.Rfairy1Carissa did an excellent job making Rachel’s face match her fairy wings.

Trick or Treat

Though the trick or treating didn’t begin until dark the kids couldn’t wait to get into their costumes.  It turned out to be an incredibly pleasant day for trick or treating.  Besides a little left over snow you never would have known that we just had a big snowstorm.  The sun was shining and the temperature was in the 60s.

Our kids with our new neighbors. Halloween2 Halloween3Thomas is in his “roaring” mood again. Halloween4This kid just cracks me up!   He kind of reminds me of Max from the book/movie Where the Wild Things Are.Halloween6 Yes, Thomas is wearing flip flops.  He didn’t want to wear socks because it’s a lot easier to just slip on a pair of flip flops.  Can you blame him?Halloween5I don’t think this costume could fit Rachel any better.  It’s perfect.  Thanks so much to Katie for letting us borrow it and to Marcia for creating such a great costume. HalloweenDorothy and her scarecrow friend John.  Again, Marcia did an amazing job the scarecrow costume.  Aren’t they cute?

Halloween3David was so cute in his costume that he got double the candy when he said, “Twick o tweat.”

Happy Reformation

Tuesday we went to a local high school for their Trick or Treat Street. The kids had a great time and got lots of candy.

On Friday morning we attended a little party at the Early Learning Center at our church. They had a lady from the Butterfly Pavilion come and teach the kids about spiders. They even got to hold a tarantula.

Then, there were many fun games. One was pin the nose on the pumpkin.

Here is our director, Miss Renee!

Here are the kids just before going out trick or treating in the neighborhood.
