Yes, really. It is the middle of May and we are still getting snow. How is a person supposed to plant their garden? The forecast is calling for more snow tonight. And it’s the heavy, wet kind of snow. Yuck! The mountains are getting dumped on. I guess that’s great for skiers and snowboarders. So if you are a skier come on out to Colorado. It looks like the lifts will be open all summer long at this rate!

Stormy June
This month has been wet. Crazy, stormy, and wet. This last week was an especially wet one for us. I am hoping my garden pulls through. Yesterday, (Sunday), may have been the wettest day of the week. I woke up for church in the morning to bright, warm sun. I left church and the car was hot. It was hot outside. A few hours later dark clouds began appearing in the sky. Then it started raining and hailing really hard and we were under another tornado warning.

When the rain finally stopped my garden looked flooded. I don’t know if my tomatoes will make it. It didn’t seem like my peas, beans, or lettuce liked all that hail and rain either. Our rain gauge measured 1.5 inches in just about 1 hour.

Our gutters couldn’t even keep up. The flowers and roses were getting hailed on. It almost looked like winter was back and so was the snow.

Then by 7 o’clock Sunday evening the sun was out again. There was no sign of a storm at all. The roads were nearly dry and the sky was blue. That’s the way the weather works around here. I usually can’t stand the dreary clouds, storms, and rain for too long, but knowing that in just a few hours the sun will be out again makes it okay. So far the only real signs of all the rain is that my lawn is very slow to dry out. It’s pretty soggy and we haven’t had to turn on the sprinklers yet this year.

Let it Snow
This morning I woke up to this. The local weather station predicted flurries. I think they were a little off. I guess this is why they say you shouldn't plant your gardens until after Mother's day in Colorado. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 68 degrees. I am sure the dirt in our garden plot is loving this weather.

More Snow
Along with the fun, burning toast we got this: more snow. It isn't even the nice, powdery snow. It's the wet, sloppy kind. Yuck! After a few days of 70 degrees, nice spring, dangling in front of us, temperatures dropped and we got more snow. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to because I know that it will be gone just as quickly as it came. The forecast for the rest of the week is calling for 70 degrees again. I guess it's good for the dirt we just got for our garden. This brings me back to a year ago. The same thing happened.

Spring Snow
What a fun day! After a nice snowstorm on Thursday we woke up to the sun shining and about 14 or 15 inches of fresh snow. I don't think it beat the 27 inches we got a few years ago, but it felt pretty close. It warmed up quickly and the snow was perfect for making an igloo, or "club house" as Thomas says. We all made it out today. It was great!

David enjoyed snacking on the snow. He really had no interest in anything else.

Oh, wait. He did want to share his snow with Elizabeth. She is thinking, "No way! Don't even come near me." Too bad for her because David tried to shove it in her face anyway.

With the sun blazing the reflection off of the snow was almost blinding. Sunglasses almost didn't help. It was so bright. Jared got sunburned.

Everyone was helping. Hard at work.

Rebecca was our greatest helper. She was loving this.

Still Winter?

So this is what happened on May 1. I thought it was spring, but maybe not yet? Good thing we didn't start planting a garden.

What's With the Weather?

Yesterday we enjoyed the most beautiful spring thus far. It was 80 degrees outside. It felt like summer!
