Trick or Treat Festivities

_MG_1682.jpgIt seems that Halloween sort of snuck up on us this year. Perhaps it's because Katie wasn't here with extra costumes to help the children decide what they wanted to be for Halloween. Yes, Andrea, we did have snow a few days earlier, but the weather changes so often that on Halloween day it was actually in the 70s. Lucky us! We do have snow in the forcast again this week though.
_MG_1691.jpgThe children were really looking forward to carving pumpkins so we made it happen.
_MG_1698.jpgAll of them enjoyed pulling the guts out of the pumpkins this year. In years past a few of them were a bit timid and grossed out.
_MG_1702.jpgRebecca carved her own pumpkin this year.
_MG_1704.jpgMy Lutheran Stud and Thomas are working on our big pumpkin which tipped the scales at 61 pounds!
_MG_1719.jpgAt the last minute my little dainty girl decided that she wanted to go trick or treating, so we found a lion costume for her in our dress up clothes trunk.
_MG_1722.jpgAh! How cute is she? Seriously.
_MG_1729.jpgThe children met up with the neighbors and they headed out with Jared and his beer. Anna and I stayed home to hand out candy.
_MG_1732.jpgHere's Rebecca's puking pumpkin. It had too much to eat.
_MG_1735.jpgJared's pumpkin was still hungry, so it gobbled up my spaghetti squash that was sitting on my porch. This pumpkin was a huge hit. There were many comments and photos taken of this guy! What a hoot!
_MG_1738.jpgThe children each returned with a decent loot of candy and that was just from our street. They didn't make it around the rest of the neighborhood. When they returned there was rumor of a haunted house in our neighborhood, so a Jared took the older children back out along with the neigbors. Just 2 out of the 6  children made it all the way through the haunted house. The rest were so scared they turned around and came back. Thomas made it through. I asked him if he wanted to go again and he said, "No. It was too scary." Now I'm a bit curious, but not so curious that I would visit that house. Hope you all had a fun evening filled with lots of good candy.

We were just talking about how much we missed being at your house for Halloween. But, for the first time in two years John didn't throw up.

Looks like fun! A side note: you have officially turned me on to the Food Network Magazine. I want a subscription now! I went ahead and bought the Nov. issue at Sam's to see where all these fabulous recipes are coming from and it looks mouth watering! I did make the soup you posted and it was wonderful!
