If you know me you know I have a thing for chips and salsa. Jared likes his ice cream and I like my chips. Often times in the evening when the children are all in bed he pulls out the ice cream and I pull out my chips and salsa or sometimes nachos. Well, now I think I've come up with a new favorite thing to add to my list. Had I know how easy it was to make hummus I would have started making this stuff years ago. I'd walk by the hummus in the grocery store and talk myself out of purchasing it because I didn't need and it was expensive. Did you know it's really cheap to make hummus? I'll show you.
Rinse these beautiful chickpeas and throw them in your blender along with the rest of the ingredients. After making this I want to grow these beans in my garden now. I'll have to look into it for next year.
Tahini with be your investment in the recipe, but don't worry it's worth it because you'll be making hummus quite often. Where do you find tahini you ask? I found it next to the peanut butter. Good luck with that. It might be different where you are, but that's a start.
Grab your pita chips and dive in. You're still in disbelief aren't you? So am I. It's easy enough that my girls can make this. It's great with veggies to or even on a sandwich.
Tasty Garlicky Hummus
1 can (14 ounces) garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3 tablespoons of water
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 garlic cloves, chopped
1 teaspoon cumin
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup tahini
Put all ingredients into a blender or food processor. Pulse until mixture is smooth. If mixture is still a bit thick add a little lemon juice or olive oil. Serve with pita chips or fresh veggies.

Where did you get the super cute bowl?
Add a roasted or sauteed red pepper to that and you won't look back. Divine!
