The Homeschooling Dream

Before you began homeschooling did you ever ponder how it was going to be? Your schedule and routine? I did. I had it all figured out. We were going to have school in the mornings in our perfect little school room. (I had the perfect room too.) The younger children had special toys they were only allowed to play with during school. That would give me a chance to work one on one with Rebecca. We would read together and get all of our things finished by lunch time. Then we would have the afternoons free to do what ever we wanted. Well, I threw that dream out the window soon after we began to homeschool.

I am still very new to homeschooling and that little dream of mine was far from reality. Our days begin in the morning and often go late into the evening. There are times when I am cooking dinner and Rebecca is sitting at the bar finishing her math. We try to begin in the morning after breakfast, but sometimes things come up. Then there are the younger ones. They don't have as much patience and they want your attention. How in the world do we ever get any school done? At the end of the day, I often wonder if we did enough. Some days I think we've done a lot and other days I feel like we've done nothing at all.

Hi Jan! I know this is an old post of yours but I had to comment on it because I can relate so much. My dreams of what our homeschooling days were going to look like and what they actually look like, do not even compare! Hehe! However, I'm still enjoying it...even when it's chaotic.

By the way, I found your blog because a mutual Facebook friend, Andrea Hoover, mentioned the post about your son shaving. Ouch!! When I came over to read that post, I just kept reading! And I very much enjoy your photography. May I ask, what kind of camera do you use? I'm wanting to get a new camera, so I'm always asking everyone else about their cameras. :)

Wonderful blog! Beautiful family!
