While we were at the Stock show we also got to see the finals for cattle penning. It’s pretty amazing stuff. It goes like this…Me, being the city girl that I am, was pretty intrigued by all of this. You begin with a bunch of cattle with numbers on their backs. Then the caller yells out a number and the cowboys have to find all of the cattle with that number on it. Usually there are three cattle with the same number. This team had the number 8. How in the world do they get all the cattle they are supposed to get while getting the other cattle to stay where they are? I don’t know how they did it. Whoops! Almost lost them. The cattle weren’t sure if they wanted to go into the pen or not.
Back around again and in they go! They are fast too. I think this team sorted them in just over 30 seconds. Amazing!
Did you go with the kids or just you and Jared?
ReplyDeleteWe didn't bring the kids. It was going to be too late. I want to go back and bring them but it doesn't look like we will have time. They have a great children's area.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had NO idea that's how it worked! And here I grew up by the Ft Worth Stockyards and have even been to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo a few times. I guess that makes me a semi-suburbia girl.
ReplyDeleteI love this! The PBR guys always say it's a cow/horse dance . . .
ReplyDeleteMarsha, you are hilarious. I can't believe you've been to a rodeo and didn't know what you were watching. That cracks me up. :) I never grew up around any of this stuff, so to me it's all very intriguing.
