The Phone Call

We were about an hour away from home, coming back from our midwest vacation, when were received a phone call. It was the county calling to see if we could take an emergency foster care placement. We had received calls before, however, with scheduling and other things we couldn't make it work to have a child placed with us when we received those calls. Being an hour from home we were technically still on vacation according to the county. They called hoping that we would be home. We said we could probably make it work so, about 1/2 an hour after arriving home, we were still unloading our car and trailer when this sweet boy and his case worker arrived.

Eariler this year we made the decision to become foster parents. As my Lutheran Stud says, "It's the right thing to do." These children come from all backgrounds and they shouldn't have to deal with neglect, drug use, or abuse in their home. For me it's heartbreaking to see these stories on the news and not be able to do anything about it. The decision for us to become foster parents was almost a no brainer especially when our children have asked when we're going to have more children in the house! The Lord has blessed us with 7 beautiful children, but we've come to a point where we want to be there for other children too.
_MG_3356.jpgCurrently, we have 3 foster children living with us and while it's been a roller coaster ride we've really enoyed having 3 extra children with us and our children have enjoyed them too. If they get tired of playing with their own siblings they have more friends to choose from. It's definitely been a learning experience that we'd never trade for anyhing. Our foster children have blended in well with our family and we've been so blessed to have them living with us. Our children have become more aware of worldly things and have learned how fortunate they are to have the life that they have. Stay tuned for more foster care stories. My husband says some of them are entertaining.

Bless you and your family and your beautiful large giving hearts. I don't know why this post made me tear up with joy. Maybe because I was the youngest of 5 kids and miss the chaos? Maybe the holiday music in the background on the radio. Maybe the skiff of snow that we actually got in the Seattle area that makes me homesick for the midwest, I dunno. But bless you and your family. <3 I always enjoy your posts. Is it weird that when I see vintage Pyrex I think of you, not in a weird way, but in a "Hey- that blogger that lives in Colorado blogs about her vintage Pyrex and makes me wanna start collecting?! lol Merry Christmas!

I had to delete and resubmit comment- I didn't realize it posted my full name! Ack!!! I'm so technologically challenged.
