Everything Smoothie

_MG_4745.jpgI'm horrible about eating breakfast. By the time the kids are fed and things are cleaned up there just isn't time to sit down and eat. People say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It makes sense considering we've just been asleep for 8 hours or so, and our bodies haven't had any nourishment. Because of this I figure I should get something in me, so when my Lutheran Stud brought home this smoothie recipe I decided to try it out.
_MG_4733.jpgIt's been perfect. I make a double or triple batch and just keep it in the fridge. I'm not a big milk fan, so Almond milk has been great. A little flax seed gives a person extra fiber. I hear that when one gets a little older fiber is a big need. The Almond butter adds protein and gives the smoothie a little texture. One can't go without fruit in a smoothie, so just add whatever you like. I've been told that fruits that stain are higher in anti-oxidants which is a good thing when it comes to this smoothie. Give it try. It's quite delicious.
_MG_4734.jpgCombine everything in your big, bad blender.
_MG_4736.jpgMix away to your heart's content. If you like it a little chunkier don't mix it as much. If you like your smoothies like a milkshake mix the heck out of it.
_MG_4737.jpgThis is how Ilike my smoothie.
_MG_4738.jpgServe it up in a mason jar and enjoy! It's the perfect breakfast, at least for me.

Everything Smoothie
  • 6 ounces cold water
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen fruit (Try to use a fruit that stains. It has higher anti-oxidant content. I’ve used blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, so far)
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed (good fiber content)
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter (for texture and protein)

Blend all ingredients together in a blender. I normally triple this recipe and keep in it the fridge. Enjoy!

I eat these for breakfast all the time! Bananas, strawberries, vanilla yogurt, and orange juice . . . delish!

That looks delicious and very healthy way to start the day! I'm going to have to try this one.

I tried making green smoothies last month... something about swallowing tiny pieces of spinach just isn't my thing.
