Sadness

L3.jpgLuke Alan Melius (age 2)

It is with great sadness that we have made a sudden trip to South Dakota. Last Thursday evening we received news that our favorite cousins', Rick and Katie, dear little boy went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus. We had the pleasure of meeting little Luke when he was just 2 years old.The photo above was taken at the Melius family reunion in 2010. Katie said I really captured his personality in that photo. He was a happy little boy, full of energy. He loved playing outside and playing with John Deere tractors. We feel blessed to have gotten the chance to meet him.

Just a couple hours before the accident Luke, who just turned 4 a few weeks earlier, had a conversation with his Dad. He asked his dad if it was Christmas. Rick said, "No bud, that was a month ago." Then Rick asked Luke why we celebrate Christmas.

Luke said, "Baby Jesus was born so he could grow up big like you Daddy, so he could hang on the cross, so I don't have to. He's our Savior. Some day I will go be with Jesus where everybody is happy."
We are so thankful for Luke's incredible faith in our Lord. We rejoice in the fact that he is in heaven now. . .and hopefully playing with our little boy, Jonathan. Please continue to pray for Rick and Katie and all of their family during this difficult time. You can view Luke's obituary HERE.

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kindgdom fo God belongs to such as these.  Mark 10: 14

What a beautiful confession for his parents and family to cling to. Our prayers are with all of you at your loss.

I'm so sorry, Jan. This has been hard for you too, and both of your families are in my prayers. How about a little Pastor Petersen to put things in perspective? "Your waiting is not without end. Your sorrow shall cease. Your tears will stop. Jesus lives. Hope in the Lord. Trust in His Word. Bask in His mercy. Jesus lives. By His grace, you will also come to your reward. You will see Luke again. Adam and Eve's work and choice has been undone. Jesus lives."

Oh Jan, this is so heartbreaking. We will pray both for your family and Luke's, that the peace of Jesus and their happy memories of the boy will bring them peace in this dark time.

This is heartbreaking. None of this makes any sense. But thanks be to God we will all meet again. In the meantime, though, we wait and pray and give thanks for the gift of faith Luke received.

That is a remarkable show of faith for a little man who just turned 4.

And he does look like the most happy boy in that photo. I can't begin to fathom the pain of losing a child of any age and my heart breaks for your family, but I praise God for sending us Christ so that Luke will now forever be as happy as he looks in that photo.

This is so sad. We're attending funeral (tomorrow) for our wonderful friend Vinesa Snegur - 6 y.o. who fell into raging river last month and her body was found 7 days later.
Such a tragic accident, and out little angel went home to be with Lord. Praying for you and your family, I'm sure now Jonathan, Luke and Vinesa waiting for us to arrive in our due time.

Rick and Katie are wonderful parents, aren't they, to have given Luke the precious gift of his baptism and his faith in Jesus. There is no earthly comfort for this kind of loss, but there is a heavenly one. I'm praying for you all.

I'm sorry Jan for you and your extended family. I can't imagine what grief everyone is feeling.
You are in my prayers.
“Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his” (Romans 6:3-5).
