Our Weekends

Pancakes1One of the reasons, albeit a very small reason, that we home school is because of Jared’s schedule.  Weekends are usually a busy time for him since most people are home and easier to get in touch with on the weekends.  Therefore, for our family, our weekends are Mondays and Tuesdays.  It just works out better for us that way.Pancakes4On one of our weekend days we usually have pancakes or french toast for lunch.  Jared does all the cooking. It’s great.  I just sit back and relax right?   This week we tried The Pioneer Woman’s Cinnamon Bun Pancakes.  They were pretty good.  You should give them a try.  They were easy to make, at least they looked easy.  I didn’t make them.  I did enjoy watching Jared make them though. Pancakes2 And in case you were wondering, Jared comes from a John Deere family.  That’s right.  He comes from a family full of amazing farmers.  (If he wasn’t a pastor, I bet he’d want farm.)  His grandpa used to work for John Deere long, long ago.  When he started farming he only used John Deere equipment and that’s how his family now rolls.  Jared’s grandma kept a massive, yes MASSIVE, stash of John Deere fabrics with which she sewed just about everything.  I inherited all of it, so I know it’s massive.  That apron there was made with the stash.Pancakes5Now back to the pancakes.  Whenever we have pancakes our kids eat like there’s no tomorrow.  They devour them like candy. Pancakes7Our boys, especially, are out of control.  They can down three pancakes in just minutes. Pancakes11 Get ‘em while they’re hot.  They don’t usually get a chance to cool down.

Jared in a John Deere apron...love it!

We've been struggling with the weekend thing. Derek's day off is Friday and this year both girls are in school that day, so I've been working and it's messing up our family life. I told him as soon as school gets out, we have to do something different so we can all see each other! (But don't tell me to homeschool...not in my DNA. :)

Oh, I have very fond memories of those pancakes. Mainly, having Jared throw them across the table on to my plate with his bare hands.

What a great tradition you have. Thanks for sharing.
