For Further Reading…

Bob4I mentioned the book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons in my last post. As exciting as it is you can only do so many lessons at a time before the kids feel like it’s work. However, that doesn’t keep them from wanting to just read books. These Bob Books are great for just reading on their own time.

Bob At the beginning of the book it lists the sounds that the child will review. You can either tell them the sounds or they should already know them.Bob6 They aren’t fancy, but they are short enough to keep the kids’ attention, yet long enough to make them feel like they are reading a book by themselves.

Abeka2Another set of books I really like are from Abeka. It’s the Reading for Fun Enrichment Library. When we lived in Fort Wayne there was a wonderful home school group more like family that we got to enjoy. A good friend recommended these books. Again they are the perfect length and size for beginning readers. Abeka1There are 50 books in this set and they have gorgeous colors and illustrations. The books come in three different sizes. Obviously the smaller books are the easiest and the larger the book the more difficult the reading gets. Abeka

If you’ve got a road trip coming up these are great to pack along. They don’t take up much room.

Have you read the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems? They are early readers and there is a whole series. I like them because they are funny and more entertaining than a typical BOB book even though the BOB books definitely serve their purpose.
