National Western Stock Show

I received this email from Jared, saying that he wanted to take me to see the show Cats for my birthday.  (We usually email back and forth during the day.  Phone calling just doesn’t work for me.  I have six kids remember?)  Anyways, I had just seen a commercial for the Stock Show on TV and remembered how much fun the bull riding competition was when we went a few years ago.  I wrote him back and said we should go watch some bull riding instead.  So my husband wanted to get dressed up and take me out to a nice show for my birthday, but instead I wanted to see livestock and cowboys.  He was in a dilemma here.  Dress up or walk around and see livestock?  It was a tough decision, but we ended up at the Stock Show.  Maybe I’ll take him to Mary Poppins for his birthday.  Ha!

SSGoing to the Stock show is like going to the state fair without all the rides.  I think I could go just for the food.  You know all that unhealthy, but incredibly delicious fair food?  They had it all. SS1We decided to get BBQ from Bubba’s.  It was fall off the bone, incredible.  I think I could eat ribs everyday if they were like this. SS2This Pedro workin’ it.  He’s the master BBQer.   He does a fantastic job.  I’ve sampled his work.SS4Can you see those massive turkey legs?  Jared had one of those.  Just one was all it took.  They’re huge.SS3 I forgot to sample the funnel cakes and fried twinkies.  I really wanted a funnel cake, but after the ribs, I had no room left.  I think next time I just won’t eat all day.SS5Watching Kettle corn being made is pretty fun and the smell is to die for. SS6It almost makes me want one of these contraptions, so I can make my own.  Just kidding. SS7I can’t believe we didn’t get any kettle corn either.   SS8 I think I need to go back.  I missed out on a lot of food.

Well, next up is some cattle penning and bull riding.  I know you can hardly contain yourselves.  I even saw a few cowboys for you Adriane.  Kel, all this food was for you.  I should have taken some shots of our food.  You would have started drooling though.  :)

But . . . but . . . where are the pictures of the cowboys? That's IT. I'm moving to Denver. Move aside, world. I'm headed west!

I'm with you on the food, Jan. So much to eat, so little time.

They really need to sell 2 week passes or something so we can come and go whenever for the whole two weeks. Then we could just go for dinner one day, lunch another... :)

You had some pretty good seats yourself, Jan. Looks like a blast!
We have a close neighbor/widow friend, 79 years young, who goes to the show almost every year and last year had her picture taken on an old bull. She's probably about as tall as you are, and in order to get her up on the bull, the big tall cowboy asigned to this gentle critter just walked up behind her, put his arms around her waist and flung her up and over the bull and landed her squarely on top of him. She's got a great picture of her sitting on top of that bad boy.

Oh, Gail that gives me hope for next year. Maybe I can sit on one of those bulls...or maybe not. They're pretty intimidating. We walked around the education wing and there were some huge bulls and cows. I forgot to get some photos of them. I was just in awe. They were nicely groomed and clean.

Next year we will go and eat. I can't believe you passed on a funnel cake. Always eat cake, no matter what kind or how full you are. It is an unwritten rule.
Now you know.
